Mirka cyclists put pedal to the metal for charity

Karl Horsley, Mirka’s national accounts business development manager, and Mark Rimmer, technical sales development, from the automotive division, will be participating in the MK to Amsterdam cycle challenge from 21-24 June 2018 to raise money for Willen Hospice, Mirka’s chosen charity for 2018.

The inaugural event will take both men, along with 38 other participants, 300 kilometres from Milton Keynes to the centre of Amsterdam over the course of three days at an average speed of between 12 and 16 miles per hour.

In preparation for the ride, Karl and Mark have developed their own bespoke ‘Team Mirka’ training programme that includes running five kilometres, riding on a turbo trainer indoors, local bike rides and playing football.

During the event, Karl and Mark will be providing regular updates on their progress as well as insights into the various cities, towns and villages they pass through or stop at via Mirka’s social media channels.

Karl said: “Mark and I decided to challenge ourselves this year by signing up to this ride and I have definitely been putting in the miles for it. My main aim is to cross the finish line and feel as fresh as I did at the start, while ensuring donations keep rolling in, like the peloton in the Tour de France.”

Mark added: “This is something I have never done before, so I have no idea what to expect but the training has been going well so far. The thing I do know is that I will be having fun and probably laughing a lot with Karl during the kilometres we are cycling across the UK and northern Europe, while raising money for such an amazing local organisation.”
