New Distribution Centre for Headlam Group

Floorcoverings distributor Headlam Group opens new Ipswich distribution centre

Floorcoverings distributor Headlam Group has announced that its new 190,000ft² regional distribution centre in Harris Way, Ipswich, is now operational.

Completed at a total cost of £26m including land and internal fit-out costs, the new centre has rehomed the long-established Faithfulls and Garrods businesses from nearby Hadleigh. The state-of- the-art facility will improve service to customers throughout the south-east of England.

The new distribution centre has 10.6 million cubic feet of capacity and can hold 30,000 rolls with 9,000 pallet locations. Two cutting tables are able to do a combined 100 cuts per hour and there’s a sortation unit with capacity to hold 2,500 cut length pieces at any one time. As well as a large trade counter, 150 stock keeping units are available in the self-pick area

The project was focused on reducing environmental impact through construction on a brownfield site, with the use of solar panels and other energy efficient technologies.

COVID-19 Secure guidance has been fully implemented across the centre, ensuring the safety and protection of employees, any visitors to site, and customers.

The larger Faithfulls business, which had been based in Hadleigh since 1955, has become a leading flooring distributor in the south east through its long-standing focus on customer service supplying extensive product ranges in both the residential and contract sectors with next day delivery.
