When working on the design concept during the refurbishment of the Jorvik Viking Centre, in York, designers RMA Themed Attractions turned to The Solid Wood Flooring Company to supply and install the floor.
RMA’s vision was to incorporate a ‘river’ that flows through the exhibits guiding visitors to each different section of the Viking’s history in the UK. Once the layout had been completed, The Solid wood Flooring Company supplied sample boards to enable designers to make their selection.
The board chosen was the E157 select grade 260mm wide 20mm thick engineered oak long plank. It was fully bonded to the concrete screed using the SW 890 MS Polymer flexible adhesive. As the board was prime oak and unfinished to 120 grit, it meant that sanding after installation was not necessary and its square edges made it perfect for this type of application. Being unfinished and high-quality it allowed for the river to be created using a router and stainless-steel insert and different coloured oils.
The Solid Wood Flooring Company provided technical help and expertise to create the definitions between the river and display areas that are on the banks of the river. They created a variety of different coloured oil finishes so that RMA could determine the optimum coloured finish for the river and islands.
Martyn Ryder, CEO, The Solid Wood Flooring Company, said: We introduced the client to a specialist fitter we know and trusted to create the exact colours using Blanchon coloured oils. These coloured oils are buffed in, and the fitter’s expertise in keeping the river colour separate from the display areas was perfection.
“We were proud to be chosen for this project and our fitter did a fantastic job in less than a week.”
The expertise of the team at the Solid Wood Flooring company can help with an infinite number of bespoke flooring options at the most competitive pricing in the UK.
