Plan for a Better Future at the Festival of Sustainability

Parkside and Strata Tiles Festival of Sustainability

Parkside and Strata Tiles are holding the Festival of Sustainability at London’s iconic Barbican, as the companies lift the lid on a commitment to be net carbon neutral by 2022.

The Festival of Sustainability, with Parkside and Strata Tiles, is a one-night-only event of talks on the topics shaping the response of the tile industry and specification communities to the immediate climate challenge. Taking place Wednesday 27 October at the Barbican, the night will cover everything from building models to the sustainable future of commercial interiors, furniture, beer and waste.

Kicking the night off, speakers from greenspec and specifiers experienced in using BREEAM and Passivehaus will show ways to clear the mud covering sustainable criteria. Then, leading architects and constructors including MakeArchitects, Tudor Stonework, BDP and The Office Group are going to get stuck into the future of sustainability.  The session will wrap up with eco champions discussing topics as diverse as furniture, beer and waste, before finishing with the launch of the ’40 for 40’ partnership with the World Land Trust.

‘40 for 40’ is a landmark programme for Parkside and Strata Tiles. For every square metre of tiles with over 40% recycled content purchased from Parkside or Strata Tiles, the companies will donate 40p to World Land Trust, through the conservation charity’s Buy an Acre programme that preserves crucial natural habitats. The World Land Trust will explain just how this initiative will help to protect some of the world’s most threatened habitats.

Sustainability experts from Parkside and Strata Tiles will also be on hand to talk about the shared commitment of becoming net carbon neutral in 2022, as well as a pledge to only source new tile collections with 20% recycled content minimum. Already, the companies carry over 40 ranges with 40% or more recycled content including the biodegradable Criaterra, a zero-waste wall tile made from 100% natural materials and 70% upcycled quarry waste.

The festival includes a packed agenda of speakers from the world of sustainability and topics that are set to spark conversations at the post-event unwind. For those involved in the specification of products for commercial interiors, the festival is a must visit and places are limited.
